Post subject:  Help on Belt Kit...
I have the Triger kit on the car and lined up the dots(RE13 GR cam - 106 deg LCA). I think I asked a looong time ago; however, will I be able to get away with this for the road use.

Not interested in blowing the doors off it, just a reliable daily for me...

PS - will be trying to get some of the locals from the ACT/surrounds to assist in my final assembly...standby for pipes(mainly engine bay and wiring stuff...). If you want to come from further afield, will feed you all and offer a bit of floor... :D

I put my RE282 in the first time by lining up the dots on the duplex chain gear and it made 127hp :lol:

Give Graham a call to confirm, but you should be OK with lining the dots up on the belt drive if you are not concerned with ultimate power.

Thanks Mick - I changed the belt for the sake it sat there for 3 years on the cogs. Managed to get a Gates one from a supplier here - good for another 3 years of sitting on the garage floor!!

I found you DO need an offset key with the early Triger belt drive kits.
I needed a 6° one in the RE282 cam (my 1360) and a 5° in the RE13 (wife's 1412 stroker).
Also it depends who is grinding the cams- I needed a 9° key with my Camtech VP3.

Thanks Kev - well I have another issue now as there is supposed to be a plate on the crank nose which keeps the belt from coming off. Some say that you use the oil slinger from a chain driven setup; however, I fitted the slnger and there is barely any keyway left to put the harmonic balancer on the end. Further, when I torque it up, it will cause the slinger to bend and flare as I screw the crank bolt in.

I need some learned advice from the forum as it is doing my head in...lol

Do NOT use a normal slinger.
I have a rough sketch I did for a bloke in Perth, to machine one up-
and it fitted fine he says.

Update on the belt drive. I have used the drawing from Kev to show Terry at QIM in Queanbeyan and will have it done in a week or so(he has to replace the workshop compressor as it went boom...)

It will be 2mm aluminium alloy cut from solid bar and machined to the specs. Should keep the bloody belt from coming off in the future. Pics to follow when I get it...

Rob, please use steel (1040 grade or better), not alloy. Otherwise, it will squash when you torque the crank pulley bolt up to 75 lb/ft...and the bolt will come loose. :shock:

Hmmmmm welll why did the maker of the Minispares belt kit say the bit was made of alloy bar in the kits they sell to the public...hopefully Terry hasn't made it yet...and if he has, well maybe lots of loctite :evil:

So called experts indeed :roll: . Will ring him in the morning then...

Later kits were redesigned with a bigger seal diameter on the bottom pulley, for this same squashing reason. Apparently on race motors the bolt's clamp force was distorting the pulley where it contacts the crank.
As for Loctite, yeah use some 262 on the bolt instead of the lock tab- they squash these days too. Rubbish material...

Thanks Kev - well erry was trying to move the air compressor(was 8 feet high!!) so reckon he would have not started it as yet.

Loctite is anyones friend!!
