Hi folks, am looking at possibly going to the snow in July/Aug. Can't find a lot of places with online pricing in Aus, has anyone bought any 12 inch ones locally? Any ideas on prices? |

What snow area do you intend to go to N.S.W. or Vic. I have some 12" chains Les |

Yeah, just down to NSW. Have lived in Aus for almost six years and never been, figured it was time for a wee visit to check it out and show my daughter some snow. Won't even be going boarding. probably stay somewhere like Cooma and do a day trip to Perisher or Thredbo. Just thinking of it and it occurred to me that they have the snow chain rules. |

2 things.... You can drive up to the SnowTube and catch the train up.... no need for chains..... Otherwise... I chased up some chains last year and had no luck in Oz (was chasing 10") ... UK were also unavailable... But found Italy and France had them... Italy couldn't/wouldn't post... (all very confusing) The French were suprisingly quick and helpful... http://shop.ebay.com.au/pcn34/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=&_trksid=p3686 Otherwise scour eBay Aust... but 10 and 12 difficut to find.... |

I've rented 10" chains a couple of times, one place in Wodonga, and another near Bright ![]() |

I have chains for 10's, I am not 100% sure but they may fit 12's. I'd have to have a look. In my jammies now, not going out to the shed to look, but maybe tomorrow. ![]() |

Nick Nice thought, thanks I'm happy to buy my own set, i can see them in the UK for about 60-70 GBP but i imagine the postage cost would be hefty. |

Mate, if your just going down once then just hire them, there is a servo/ski shop at the entrance of cooma which sells them. I know you are supposed to carry them but in the 5 years ive been driving to Perisher I have never once needed them. No point in blowing cash and buying something which you will not use. |

That gives you ample time to make a set yourself if you were so inclined... |

Well I guess that's the question. do these hire places actually do such small sizes considering how few cars have wheels this size? |
