hey does anyone know roughly how much it would cost to ship a shell to australia from the uk???? dont say alot! i know it will be expensive |

I looked at doing a ute shell a couple of months ago and got an online quote of around 700 quid plus any duties and taxes. Was only a hypothetical query at the time and there seems to be quite a few companies doing it. Try Googling shipping companies. May be worth finding out the next time one of the Aus mini suppiers is getting a container sent here and try and strike a deal to share the shipping costs (may work out cheaper for both parties) My 2c Dunc |

hahahaha Why cause they are less rusty? Or better than here? What has inspired this thought? Maybe you could try Columbia for a spare shell next time? They value cash much less, well i mean they value it more, but they need every bit they get, so they will be friendly

dude i know youre looking for a shell but if you just wait and finish off MEENI then put all your resources into the race car that will be better. getting a shell from NZ costs about $3000 for import taxes and liscenses imagine something coming from the UK |

Hey Camel, maybe he's talking about a new heritage shell. Can't get those in Columbia  There are a number of companies that specialise in returning large numbers of Antipodeans home from the UK. I have used Anglo Pacific three times and been very happy with the service. In a shared container, you pay for the space you take up. Contact them as they should be able to give you a very close estimation of all the charges.

If you get a new Heritage shell and it has no numbers or ID, you will probably have grief getting it registered. Just ask Chris.. 
As for a S/H shell, you would be lucky to find one there without tinworm..

As for a S/H shell, you would be lucky to find one there without tinworm.. You will not be able to get it registered unless it complies in all respects with the ADR's of the year of registration. Today that means collapsible column, twin line brakes, emission testing etc. Don't go there. Any attempt to circumvent this by any means is illegal. |

either way its going to cos you a f**ing mint, sean. best bet would be to get your hands on a rolling shell from australia, remove all the panels with rusyt in them and replace them. still gonna be expensive but. how rich are you? hahaha |

actually, if it is for racing surely you wont want to spend too much getting a mint condition shell, it will just get wrecked??? just get one that looks tidy |

Don't worry meeni, I'm sure everyone here has at some stage got a UK mag, looked in the for sale section and gone "wow, a 94 cooper for $500", but there are two things to remember: 1. the car will be a heap of rusty crap 2. import prices, consisting of transport to dock in UK, transport to Aus, import tax (?) customs fees and time, etc. It's not worth it. |

If you want a mini for racing buy a late ninties cooper already in Aus that can't be complied. I was offered a choice of 3 fuel injected cooper sport minis all on or around 5 grand. Can't drive em on the street but you can use them on the track. If your up the coast ring that mob up their that sell imported minis as the might have some stock that they were unable to comply or easily get you one in. Their cheaper to buy that way. Steve |
