I have a Pulsar electronic dizzy and running a GT40R coil. Just want to make sure it is the right one. Thanks |

Neither. As far as I know, full electronic ignition systems require a higher powered coil than either of those. When I did mine, I bought the coil out of the pulsar wreck that the dizzy came out of as well; otherwise go to Supercheap/Repco etc and get a coil designed for electronic ignition systems. As discussed recently, the difference between GT40 and GT40 R is whether they run an external ballast resistor. KB |

When I fitted my one I consulted the Bosch book and it said the GT40 range was designed for high performance points ignition systems. So I got a new standard coil suited for a Pulsar. It works great. |

Maybe thats why the spark seems weak. What is the common pulsar these dizzys come out of? So I can match up the coils. OK Just found this from Kev A Pulsar N12 electronic dizzy is already the right diameter and length to fit a Mini. 1. First get your Pulsar dizzy. Comes off an N12 Pulsar, 1600cc, late 80's. Part Numbers: stamped on dizzy body near the vacuum canister- Pulsar auto- D4R83- best on 848-998-1098 <edit> will work on stock 1275 but D4R85 is better. So whats the difference between Nissan Pulsar N13 coil or N16 coil (1987-91) or does it matter? |

The Pulsar N13 used a Holden Camira motor. |

Right just rang Repco and they have the coils on the shelf, But I am confused as to whether it is a resister coil or not.. This is from Kevs post: 10. Use the Pulsar coil. It is 1.5 ohm, so if you wanted to you could use a Bosch GT40-R coil instead. But no need- mine fires .040" plug gaps to 8000 rpm... NOTE- although it may be marked as a resistor coil NO RESISTOR IS USED with this dizzy. So should I buy the NO resistor coil?? as they have both types |

As far as I can recall that model pulsar didn't run a ballast resistor. I'm using coil (with no ballast), leads, cap and rotor from the donor pulsar. Five years on and no issues at all. |

dr Mini recommends the GT40 R which is what Im running and it runs great with an excellent spark. There are GT40 versions available in electronic coils too, I would be wary using the factory nissan coil unless you look at the plugs and leads the Nissan used too as they are obviously different. Ill have to look into this some more. |

I've found all the Pulsar dizzys I stripped off wrecks had a factory 1.5 ohm coil (and no resistor). I've has a GT40R (1.5 ohm) coil on my Pulsar dizzy for nearly 10 years now. Yes I'm aware that Bosch say these are `not recommended for electronic ignition'. But IMO they are talking about CDI systems, not good old simple breakerless ignition. A stock GT40 or Bosch blue coil also works fine, these are both 3 ohm. But do NOT fit a Bosch or other brand late model `electronic ignition' coil to a Pulsar dizzy, these are 0.8 ohm or even less and will burn the dizzy module out. |

I used a generic coil from supercrap on my pulsar dizzy for almost 10 years, no drama. Cheers Jacob |
