brickworx is selling these calipers and i was wondering was it only the cooper s that had the 7.5'' discs or did some coopers have them too

It was only the S that had the 7.5" discs the others had 7" discs

The swivel hub off the 7" discs is useful as it is the same as the cooperS swivel hub

Ummm, I thought the 7" brakes used the DRUM Hub ......

Maybe worth checking....

This says a little about it basicly if you have the cooper hubs and want to upgrade to S discs you throw away everything except the swivel hub and grab your S calipers, disks etc and bolt them on.

Big willy had found a link for new 7.5" calipers and some other stuff. It was expensive I think

The 7" calipers I imagine are too small in that the S disk protrudes out too far so you couldn't mount the caliper. But you could put 7" discs and calipers on I guess  but you would be better off waiting to try to get S calipers IMO you have a start in that you have the swivel hubs.
and I reckon if people had to collect a set of disks bit by bit they might be put off so you might get them cheaper.

Appartently the 998 cooper brake calipers are better than the 997 (more pad area) see link above.

The 7 inchers by Lokheed were considered inadequate even back in the late 60's so the only reason you'd use them is for originality concerns.

The 7" brakes didn't have a booster, they had a stupid hydraulic gizmo to raise the pressure. Maybe if the 7" brakes were used with a VH44 booster they would work better?

No, 7" Cooper brakes used a DISC swivel hub, but DRUM C/V.
Drive flange was similar to a drum one in function but a bit different in the outer flange detail to fit the disc rotor..
If you see any of these 7" disc brakes they are worth grabbing, if only for the swivel hub which is identical to the S one. 8)

if memory serves me corect it was more to do with the size of the pad they were just to small and the clamping force was minimal

There were two types of pads for those little fire breathers.

One was slightly larger than the other. They were reasonable if you had a servo fitted but only for normal use.
Didn't the go-kart boys use to grab these callipers for their kart brakes?

I had a set of original 997 Cooper brakes, the pads were like postage stamps..
So, I milled the calipers out to take the bigger 998 pads, faced the discs, and threw it all into my ClubbyMatic with a VH44 servo and metal pads.
It stopped pretty well. 8) Next best thing to S brakes.
Remember, they used to race Improved Production 998 Coopers with these discs.. and the S's were not that much better braked.

I am better at welding conrods than MacGyver was.. 8)
True story! Broke one in the (1932) Austin 7 one day, (pinch bolt hole) so I welded it with stick electrode. It lasted years then, until we broke the crank...
It was a late model 3 bearing one, too..
