Post subject:  Matic For the Missus?

Hi all. I'm looking to do a matic roundie for the missus.

Can anyone give me a comment regarding the autos and how well they drive.

Also maintenance on the auto etc and 998 vs 1275 etc.

Thanks in anticipation....

I have not driven one but there is a nice one in Qld on Carpoint for $8,500. A lot of money but I doubt you would find one much better!

I'm looking for a project. I possibly have a shell available and there are at least two engines availble locally. One is a 998 A+ and the other a clubby 1275..

Opinions?

Take a look at this thread:

Some opinions on matics drivability

Not sure about the servicing though

Edit: I've heard they need more regular oil/filter changes though

To fit an auto in you'll need a different subframe from a standard manual car.

I reckon the auto is highly underrated. I'be been running a 1275 auto in my moke for five years now with no issues apart from cooling. I still haven't changed the final drive, but I was pulling a 5 x 4 trailer full of firewood today. It was slow off the mark with tall moke sized tyres but fine from about 15kph up.

I used to have 998 auto in my 89 Rover and replaced it with 1275 auto again.
Of course 1275 has more torque than the 998 but I still love the 998 too.
As it has been mentioned before still Mini and still corners great, specially if you are doing bumper to bumper driving it is very comfortable.
