Post subject:  new motor specs
Okay so i am looking at rebuilding my 1098 as it has a bloody big gouge in it

so i have the following items
HS4 carbie and heated manifold
12G202 head
LCB extractors onto a RC40 spots exhaust
pulsar dizzy

what would you guys recommend i throw at it, cam etc for a good sporty motor??

Get someone to show you how, or get them to port your head a bit

A GR cam grind, not sure which would best suit your setup, but one will be very helpful

I suppose the age old question is how much do you want to spend?

I recently freshend my motor up and added some goodies but it ended up more than double what i expected to spend.

What sort of driving will you be doing with it?

From what I have been reading up this afternoon, the RE13 camshaft certainly seems to be the one to go for.
There is reference to a RE83 also, but I am not sure if this is a typo or if it's a totally different cam.

In my opinion, a RE13 is going to be too much for 1098 daily. Maybe the RE83 is the better choice.

Every time this topic comes up, the best advice that people give, is to call Graham Russell and ask him what he thinks. HE will give you an honest answer and he knows what works.

Best advice so far!

Ive got a warm 1152 with an RE13... takes a bit to get to cam... sings all the way to 7k though ;)

The block's gouged so it needs an over bore then. Will you go for the minimum bore or do you want to go BIG :?:
Either way the rebore will cost about the same and the larger pistons will also be about the same cost, (obviously they will be slightly more expensive) but I reckon it will be worth it.

1100's have plenty more torque down low but don't like to rev as hard.
998's don't have the low down torque, but make for it top end as they don't mind to rev.

It's all down to the squareness of the stroke.

12G what head? Its the numbers after the 12G that count!

Go the 1098 over the 998 for a roady unless you want a certain type of motor, make sure you get your crank crack tested.
