Howdy Team.

I've just got my mini back from the panelbeater. She's all rust free, straight and shiny. Now it's time to launch into building it back into a proper car. I'm going to be crawling under it to put in new suspension and brakes (see list below).

Is there anything else I should look for/check/replace while I've got the car stripped out and up on stands with the engine out? (Steering, subframes etc)

Here's what I'm putting in:

Front brakes:

* Mini Sport 8.4" Vented 4 Pot Alloy Brake Calipers - anodised in the colour of your choice
* Mini Sport 8.4" Vented Grooved brake discs
* Drive Flanges
* Brake Pads and split pins
* CV Joints and boot kits
* Steering Arms
* Swivel Hubs
* Ball Joints
* Taper Roller Wheel Bearings
* Wheel Studs

Back brakes:

* Back Plates
* Wheel Cylinders
* Brake Shoes
* Handbrake Levers
* Rubber boots
* Adjusting wedge screw
* Tappets
* Return springs
* Brake drums with spacer
* 55mm Wheels studs

Suspension:

1 x set of 4 Spax gas shock absorbers.
1 x Mini Sport Adjusta Ride Kit
1 x Mini Sport Adjustable Tie Rods
1 x Mini Sport 1.5° Negative Camber Bottom Arms
1 x set of 4 poly bottom arm bushes
1 x set of 4 poly tie rod bushes

Any help and suggestions welcomed.

Thanks

I got an email saying I had a reply to this topic, but I don't see any. When I clicked the link in the email it said the reply doesn't exist.

Can anyone make sense of that for me?

There was a reply but the poster deleted it.

Don't forget to fit new rubber hoses to the brakes.

Just remember to fit all your battery, brake and fuel lines before the subframes go in :wink:

Clutch hose as well. If you get the four brake hoses, for the same or a little cheaper you can get a brake line kit which has the clutch hose included in the bag.

Sorry, I should've been more specific. The subframes are still in place. It was painted as a rolling shell. Is there anything I can look at to do with the steering rack while the subframes are still in?

Thanks for the advice. I'll definitely look at doing the brake and clutch hoses.

To get the rack out you need to remove all 4 subby bolts in the floor, and the 4 in the towers (or remove the nuts if it has studs there). Also loosen the 2 front bolts a few turns. You can then tilt the subby down enough to get the rack out.

Before refitting the rack try the 2 U-bolts in the floor holes. You will find they have stretched too wide, so put them in a vice and squeeze closed until they fit.

Thanks again team.

I'll be putting a whole new wiring loom in because the old multi-coloured spaghetti was shocking.

There has been some mixed opinions amongst others I have spoken to about the suspension and brake parts I got from Minisport in the UK. Some have advised me to sell most of it and get other stuff. Some have even said that it won't meet ADR regulations. As I'm new to all this, I just want more opinions.

I'm running out of money and time, so to sell what I've got and buy better would be a major setback. Is what I've got OK? What should I do?

I was planning on getting stuck into fitting it all this weekend!

Help please!

Are any replacement parts ADR compliant?
Were new parts from Leyland ADR compliant?
Are there any ADRs on replacement parts anyway?

Me thinks someone is talking crap. (maybe more than one)

apparently braided brake lines are a no-no unless they have a yellow tag, but what parts do you have that you're concerned about?

I don't know specifically. I didn't think there'd be any problems with any of it. I don't have braided hoses (but I do like the look of them). There have just been comments when I mention the parts I have, that some people think they might not meet ADR specs.

Sorry I can't be any more specific than that at this stage. I'm trying to find out more specifically what the problem might be.

Has anyone else had many dealings with UK Minisport? Is the quality of their parts something I should be concerned about?

Thanks for all your help.
