I have 2 old Nokia phones that this will work on - at $8 it's cheap protection (along with other methods)

Does sound like a good idea, the site is in Russian (I think) and it wouldn't translate?

My question is can you set up 'an old Nokia' to power all the time, I know my old phones usually have stuffed batteries, so just when the car disappears, the battery would be dead.....

So does registering with the site cost$ and is there a call charge (Russian site may have a Russian base to call...).

With the price of generic android phones on eBay/deal-extreme coupled with google latitude which is free forever and then a cheap sim card, (Last I checked "3" where the only prepaid sim that didnt exprie monthly.)
You can get very cheap GPS tracking.

There is also this which looks interesting if you want extra control as well as GPS tracking. http://www.gismo.com.au/

About tracking and things related, last Christmas my brother left his iPad on a flight that landed in Canberra. He realised his mistake at the airport but by then they had already loaded the plane for Perth. So using his iPhone he tracked the iPad on its way across Australia and when the flight was near Perth he set an alarm off on the iPad with a message on the screen saying "I'm lost, please hand me to a flight attendant"

Big mistake! The iPad was recovered and handed in and then he had to arrange a courier to pick it up from Qantas, pack it and send it back to Canberra. (big dramas with Qantas in the process)

He should have just kept tracking it till it flew east again! :lol:

Flight Mode would mean no calls or SMS but I,m sure it could receive GPS signals , I have no doubt an EPIRB would work if you set it off on a plane

If it's in flight mode all signals sent and received (including GPS) should not be available - i'd guess it wasn't in flight mode as he might have turned it on when landed and left it then.
