Hi. Spotted a 850 morris FS and was wondering if my 998cc engine/gearbox from my moke would be a simple bolt in or is there any modifications required? cheers. Shard |

Awesome ![]() Yeah I'll probably need more time then two weeks. WIll make a nice winter break project if I get it. Gunna ring up tommorow and find out if it's still available then pop down have a look before deciding. Here's hoping. *goes to bed with the excited feeling only a new mini can bring* Shard |

if the 850 has a "magic wand" gearstick you might have to cut a hole for the remote one that the 998 will have. |

I remember doing the profile stuff when I first joined.. must have gotten lost maybe in the forum address change *looks around*. The donor motor will be from my current moke. It's seen better days (engine is fine though) and I want to change over to a mini, the bug resurfaced a few months ago so I've been keeping my eyes open (especially with tax time just around the corner). Got no idea what condition the current motor is in the car i'm interested in, but for the price it's probably not too good. Not sure what a remote gearstick is. My 998 has a big wand looking like gearstick coming out of the floor panel. The original knob was a little black cylinder type one making the stick look like a wand, is that the wand or remote type? Shard |

a remote or rod change will come out of the floor here, as opposed to a "magic wand" or "pudding stirrer" gearchange which will come out at the floor where it meets the firewall. ![]() ![]() the 850 doesnt have a hole for this unless someone has already modified it. |

a tip from a couple of guys that have done it is to take a template of the floorpan of a mini with a remote change gearbox and use that to mark out the hole. this will make it look a lot more factory, as most are real butcher job. an alternative is to stick the 998cc engine on the 850 gearbox, or the 850 diff housing on the 998cc gearbox. the latter is what is in my 850 at the moment, and it works just fine. i would recommend you go for the remote change if you want to drive it in a spirited manner, as the engine is far more stable with the remote change. michael |
