Post subject:  Stripped thread

On my journey to work friday I decided that I would perform some spirited driving as I was running late, upon negotiating a sweeping right turn, I happened to notice a knocking noise coming from the front left of my mini.

Today I removed the wheel and noticed that the disc was moving ever so slightly, I also noticed, as I removed the caliper to check the bearings, that where the top bolt of the caliper screws into the hub has been stripped.

I can replace the bearings myself but I have no idea how to fix the thread. I would be most thankfull if someone could show me how this is done.

u need to get a heli coil for it, you take the bolt to a nut and bolt shop and they will give you the next size up heli coil and drill bit ..then u need to drill out the hole and thread a tap into the hole, then u wind the heli coli in and it should bring the size back to the original bolt.

There are really only 2 safe options here-
1. Get someone to helicoil the stripped thread, or
2. Buy another swivel hub.

New ones are not that dear these days.

Check your bolts for thread damage too.

If helicoiling, it needs to be drilled and tapped on a mill or bench drill to ensure alignment. If crooked at all the bolt won't go in, they are a close fit.
