Post subject: | Vinyl Paint |
Hello friends I was wondering, who has had any experience with vinyl paint? Particularly in high traffic areas ie. Seats I know people have had great success with it on hoodlinings and the likes, but how would it go wear and tear wise on front seats? Given the area is correctly prepped and cleaned, could you expect it to last decently without rubbing off on clothing? Cheers in advance, Adam |

I used Septone satin black spray to colour all my green door cards black, and I used it on the Clubby GT rear seats too. They still look good 12 months on, but nobody sits there (no rear seatbelts) ![]() The VHT? brand vinyl paint is supposed to be even better. |

g'day adam i have used vinyl paint on my front low back seats, it looks good for a while, but looses its gloss if you paint it gloss as i did and eventually the colour wears off the seats not onto your clothes but just to the original vinyl but if the saets arent being used such as rear seat i cant see any problem. hope this helps cheers |

Cheers for that guys What kind of mileage did you get out of the front seats Carter? Are we talking two months until it wore through, or say 12months? If it's a decent period of time I think i'll do it and just redo it when it needs. |

i did the trim in my minor about 15 years ago... everything except the front seats.. still going strong and unless you knew you can't tell. back seat did carry the occasional passenger and held up well but not daily bum traffic like fronts would get. we used Protec vinyll paint and sprayed it ourselves from a gun, changed the trim from burgundy red to beige/bone.. definitely a good product but not sure if it's still around. |

Used VHT vinyl dye (not paint) and seemed to soak into the vinyl, rather than just coating it. Haven't tried it where you would sit though....... |

I have used the VHT stuff as well, preped by using wax & grease remover, colour has dulled alittle but hasnt worn as such as they are not used much by passengers. |

I've always used vht from autobarn without problems, even when I don't prep the surface correctly (or at all!). ![]() |

Ive used both, my kids jump and go crazy on the back seat in shoes, etc, sits in the sun, everything and it hasnt changed at all. I used the die also not the paint and it really soaks in, but you need to do it REALLY thin and multiple layers. I used SATIN not gloss though. Cheers, Pete |
