Been a very long time since ive seen my mini, let alone touched it.

I'm gunna get back into it as i actually considered selling all off, but dont think i can do it.

an update, shell totally rubbed back, all painted, engine sorted and put in, glass in, seats (like spankin new) ready to go in, and electricals all good.


All that is left is the brakes, but when i put the engine in i didnt realise something was wrong (was actually pretty obvious once someone pointed it out), but the previous owner must have done something dodgy with the brackets for the engine steady and master cylinders, its got all nasty looking welds and stuff, and really needs to be cut off and start from a fresh.

Is it brackets bolted to the firewall? is something welded at the factory?

So, what i'm after is some pics on what it should like, what brackets are there? how should it all look?

This is what should be there. The Black painted bracket sits under the master cylinders & is held there by the studs sticking up through the firewall on the pedal box (not shown in pic) The other bracket is spot welded to the firwall box section.

Mine looks a little different to 850man's (I wish it was as clean too). I've sandblasted the top bracket to get rid of the rust, I'm painting the bracket and sticking it back on tomorrow. I should probably clean up the engine bay and the hole for the pedal/pins/actuators. Hope the photo's help. I can take more if you want as long as I get your message before I reassemble.

I have seen the lower bracket crack and break off @ the fold, maybe that happened to this car and they did not fix it. just ground the other piece off and left it! stranger this have been done?

yours is a little different and yet exactly the same, if you look closely, the bracket that holds the hydro and brake pipe tee is a separate piece held on by the clutch hose. The bit fixed to the body is the same as what 850man shows.

I think for early cars they are interchangable. It's only the later ones with Tandem MC that needed a slightly bigger one. Someone else here could propably verify that.

I thought they were gal originally. Mine to my GT is.....

I have finally got back into it again, and have used the grinder to cut off the old dodgy bracket, as you can see in the pic below:


Now this is where i need some help, is the bracket that i grinded off something i can purchase and weld on? or is it something i need to get fabricated?

As you can see in the pic above from Wantone, there are two brackets, one that slips on the master cylinder bolts (i have this one) and one that is spot welded to the firewall, i need this one.

I'd make one and weld it on

You could use a piece of angle and two bolts through the crossmember, but you'd probably want to put a plate on the inside as well. The original thing wasn't particularly strong, and only spot welded

righto, so make my own sounds good, does anyone have a dimensions?

Area has been totally cleaned up now, so ready to make the bracket.

Just need rough dimensions.

I want it to look good, doesn't have to be super original, but want it to look tidy. as i'm tarting up the whole engine bay.

I think you just need to get creative. If it were me I'd bolt the top bracket in and then position the engine steady, this will show you exactly where the lower bracket needs to be.
The dimensions should be a mirror image of the top bracket.
Then you need to do the same for the brake line side. Just position the brake line and all its components where they look "normally" and make the bracket to the right size to support everything.

I just went and gave one a quick measure;
The bit that sticks out in 70mm wide and 40mm out.
The base plate is 120mm wide and 30mm high.
Just had a look at your pic and the base plate is still their so if you run a tape over that it will help explain my measurements.
And if you look at the previous pictures you can see how it's meant to be shaped with the brake and hydro bracket being a separate bracket (you should be able to get this of someone easily or just make your own).
