Here's an auto subframe.

On a manual subframe, the edge highlighted yellow is straight, and the edge highlighted red is close to straight too.

Easiest way to tell- the bit of steel that goes across the front of an auto subby is curved forward an inch or so. This is to make room for the autobox front cover's removal. (auto box is mounted about 20mm further forward)

Manual ones are straight here, not curved.

Engine mount holes are different too.

Also The Auto frame is wider at/between the engine mounting area(s)

The sides of the subframe where the engine bolt to on either side have been cut and curve away from the engine its approx 68cm across. The bottom seam running front to back is cut away also....
Hope this helps

from memory i think i just made a 9-10mm spacer on one side of the engine mounts and the manual engine slotted in place.

Mini Matic front subframes have the box section across the front you can see below the front valance on my Moke. It's commonly unbolted and removed, but the ear-like mounting points, with two holes in each, on either side of the subframe will still be there.

Hmmm - is the subframe on the 1100 also different between the manual and the auto ?????

Morris 1100 I am talking about not the engine size. Too lazy and too cold to go outside and look.

Yes. The front rail and the clutch/torque converter side are different.
The Auto frame also has a pair of mounts for a bash guard (which I am missing)

The bash guard is what I was referring to in my post above as the "box section" across the front.

I reckon PVA would have a Morris 1100 Auto one. I have a Mini one, but it fouled on the Park switch, so I took it off the Moke.

Damn - I was hoping to just drop the engine in the other shell - dropping the fluid and the sub-frames was something I did want to do.
