while I could get a reamer (suttons make them) OK, I couldn't find a pilot long enough so I made one. Most half decent tool suppliers will be able to order the reamer in. |

Hey mate ![]() I can't tell you whether or not these guys have the adjustable reamer's and pillots your after, but I deal with them quiet a bit at work and their service is always good. If they don't have it can't get it, they'll usually give you some advice on where to look or who to try. Cheers edit... sorry heres the link ![]() |

and made my own pilot. How've you found it, if you don't mind my asking? Some of the prices of the Harey Balls stuff is pretty tempting sometimes.... Any good? |

Yeah PK, it's OK, very well made and cheap too. I used another new one this week to do rocker bushes, it works fine too. ![]() |

I use one of their 50mm side and face mills, (3 triangle inserts), works great. As well as the Seco one I have at work. |

As well as the Seco one I have at work. And their tips are alright? Yeah, we've got a 75mm seco, can't say anything bad about it... |

Found it... The reamer pilot body is steel, 0.625" diameter x 160mm long, the thread on the end is 1/4" BSW x 3/4" long. I've screwed it out a bit for clarity. The sleeve on the pilot is HDPE plastic, but steel would be fine. The turned diameter is 13/16" as I used to ream the bush out with the needle bearing still in, then pull the bearing out. Why? it worked for me... ![]() Some people use a tapered sleeve, but then you have to hold it up in there somehow whilst you screw the reamer in. Next time I ream any I will use my toy lathe as discussed last year? in another thread- it would be faster and less hassle. Like this- (note it will need a guide mounted in the tailstock, or a bigger centre). |
