looks interesting. what kind of gearbox do they have use.. not that i would buy it .. just looks interesting.

They have a five speed with a horrid stretching cable linkage. The swap has been done into a Mini a few times. Terry Pollard has a Moke with the same engine. But it's no powerhouse and gearbox bits are rare.

Dose look interesting and seems to fit in their quite well. I wonder what power they make. and is it an auto or are they a cable shift manual?

It is a Morris 1500 motor (the 1500/1300 wagon was called a Nomad)
The box can be a 4 or 5 speed, if it is a 4 it can easily be converted to a five.

Like Brett said they have a horrid cable gear change.
In England these power units were in the Austin Maxi and the later versions had an improved rod-change box.

I am not certain but I think you can get a 1750 crank to fit.

the 1500 was only manual, auto's were 1275s engined. Cables worked OK at first but tended to get sticky when worn then broke and pissed oil out. I had my std 1500 5 speed up to the magic ton a fair few times. I reckon you could trick one up a bit, twin carbs exhaust etc.

I found my Nomads series workshop manual. A 14YA engine number prefix indicates a five speed, at least originally.

Power: 73hp at 5500rpm
Torque: 81 lb/ft at 4000rpm

Basically the same as a good 1275.

Wasnt there a cheap putting nomad 5 speeds into mini gearbox cases?

hmmmm always thought the 1500 would be too tall to fit under a roundnose bonnet....would have good torque

Really guys, they were not much of a motor in the scheme of things.. just SOHC for the sake of it. And poorly executed too, valve angles were weird.

By comparison, my `fairly mild' 1412 A series stroker with the same HS6 carby made 114HP @ 6500, and 112 ft/lb torque @ 4500. Real HP, on an engine dyno.

[edit] If you really must cram a BL/Rover OHC motor in there, I'd use the K series + 5 speed out of an MGF. They are pretty light and you can get good HP with cams and chip changes. My son has done this with his Lotus Elise S1, it hauls ass now.
