Post subject: | Snail spring question |
Got my new snail spring today. I read the info from the door doco (found in forum). I then put the spring on my handle. After doing so my handle is now higher than the black stopper. What am I doing wrong? or what can I do to fix this? Here is a drawing I did of the problem: ![]() |

The handle is supposed to stop on the black stopper, thats why is has a hollowed out bit uinderneath. I see two reasons for your problem: 1. The stoppers have been modified to get rid of the step, or 2. The handle has too much slack in the escutcheon, and the spring is holding it outwards. The fix to this would be a new handle / escutcheon combination with less slack between them, or a bush between the ones you have now. |

I was at Link Automotive today too... damn. I should have taken the handles. Thanks for the reply. |

Theres another thing you could try too, dismantle the handle and put more shims between the escutcheon and the split pin. Put plenty of water proof grease in there too. If you can tighten this enough, the handle might pull straight again. |

I had exactly the same problem after all the stuffing around fitting the new spring. Got pissed of with the end result and just unhooked the new spring and let it hang in there. Will fit a new handle one day when i have to pull it apart again. |
