You can't guarantee the correct order by looking at it, but you could start at 2 o'clock (the default position) and move it around one place through trial and error, but that depends on you having marked the dizzy location before removing it. h=The lead order is 1-3-4-2 in an anti clockwise direction.

Before you remove the timing cover from the painted engine, get a stanley knife and run it around the head at the junction between the head and the rocker cover gasket. That will stop the paint from splitting off. Its hard not to ruin the two timing cover bolts however..

if you loosen & swing down the little timing mark cover plate (on the clutch cover),,, then turn (rotate) the engine till you see the TDC marks (5deg & 10deg etc),,, then take the oil filler cap off & feel inside to number one inlet valve rocker & fiddle it to see if it has clearance

well if it has clearance then you`re on the firing stroke & put the number one lead where the rotor is pointing at that spot

if it doesn`t have clearance then either -->fit the number one lead opposite to where the rotor is pointing

or--> rotate the engine one full turn & test again

got it?
