Has anyone refurbished a dash/crash pad from a clubby?

Mine is a little tatty so I'd like to replace the vinyl.

Any comments appreciated.

I refurbished a Morris Top rail thingo. I got rid of the old vinyl and put new vinyl on. It was pretty easy but the windscreen was still in the car so it made it hard, will re do it once the front screen is out.

What if the padding underneath is cracked? I have a big gash in the Clubby pad.

Just fill the gap with some sort of putty/foam/misc then recover it with a new layer of vinyl?

On mine the foam seems intact and the vinyl is just tired but has cracks at the edges.

I was wanting to find out if it is kosher to take the pad off the steel, take the old vinyl/foam off, separate the foam, glue the foam back on and then re-vinyl over the top...

I pulled the vinyl off this arvo. took about an hour to do this carefully so as not to damage the foam underneath.

Once the vinyl was off I took the foam off the base to clean it up and glue it back on properly. Will do this tomorrow if I get time.

I got some vinyl at Clark Rubber today but it is the fabric backed stuff where the one that came off was more like a vinyl wrap.

I'll let you know how it all went back together and the total time etc. Will post photos too if I remember to take some...

Stopped at getting the dust off the base. Will have another go this weekend.

I intend to strip the contact cement off (acetone?), paint if necesary where the PO had drilled some holes through and then do the covering.

I reckon it will all go well except where the recesses are that the vinyl has to mould right in...

Good ol' petrol will get though Contact Adhesive no worries.

Does a type of vinyl exist that heat shrinks when hit with a hot air gun?

If so it would be gold for such an occasion, I’ve redone mazda door trims before and something like that would’ve been awesome, I just persisted with the contact adhesive, time and patience…

Hmmm allsport vinyl. 4 way heat stretch...

I'm taking mine next week to a guy who does motorcycle seats, he's doing it as a favour to me but ill ask him while im there whether he wouldnt mind more business on the mini side of things. Im getting the bottom done and he's quoted me $80 to recover.

Easy, do it one of two ways:
1. Vynil cover them when the dash is covered so you dont see them, or
2. Make a plate to fit in there the size of the hole, put the cutout for your HU in there, and with the left over space you can have room for a 12v accessory plug or USB / AUX plug or something.

Hmm no. Gave it a soak, wet rub, scrub and scrape. No dice.

I might try acetone, then paint stripper. I'd almost go straight over it but it is a bit rough in spots an wont glue properly in others.
