Post subject:  rear brake shoes

Just read minidave's 65 delux project and noticed a photo of his rear brake set up. I always thought the rear shoe was the leading shoe, and therefore the lining was close to the adjuster and the front shoe was the trailing shoe and the lining was close to the wheel cyclinder. Can someone clear that up for me, because if Dave's is right mine is wrong!

I think i've found the photo you are referring to.

In which case i do believe the shoes are on wrong. The shoes are not leading and trailing, as they are the same. However the shoes do have a leading edge (the end without lining). This leading edge should for the front shoe, be at the top, and the rear shoe at the bottom. Therefore as the wheel turns forward, the drum is turning into the leading edge.

I believe this can be backed up by looking at a picture of the rear brakes in a workshop manual.

When in doubt, refer the Instruction Manual
