Hi all,

This is the fan that lives under the passanger side wing of my 1989 Rover mini, it has a 1000cc carb A+ engine and has Aircon.

Now is the a standard Rover Jap fitment or an aftermarket thing!?

Either way it doesn't work and i am wondering weather to repair/replace or just remove to assist ari flow!?

All thoughts and recommendations are appreciated. Ta

Quite often the reason they don't work is the exposed plug under the wing gets dirty and corrosive. A good clean will help there.
You can then test if it works by connecting the two wires from the temp sensor together and seeing if the fan runs.

A the moment its hooked up to a switch inside, guessing it was supposed to be thermally switched, but at the moment it just pops fuses...

What size fuse is it blowing?

10amp.....

Same as my jap one but I don't know if it works either

Ditto here. Mine ran off a thermo switch, but also had a manual control as well.

Firstly, that fan is standard fitment to the rover minis. I put one of them into my car because it has the correct shroud and offset fan for wheel clearance.

The temp sensor on the rovers was in the bottom radiator hose: it was split with a sensor in the middle. Lots of them have had this removed, or it was useless there so the setups modified to be on a switch.
On my old rover I had the fan on the switch in the car, my current car has it running from a temp sensor in the bottom of the radiator.

If you get the fan working directly off a battery or something it should be strong, and no loud bearing noises, though they all tend to 'whirrr' a bit. If its noisy and the bearings knackered thats why it could be pulling more power. Mine ran fine on a 10 amp fuse, though the factory fitted 15s.

Check that none of your wiring has had any insulation material rubbed off, it could be earthing at a point near the radiator or its moving or where the wire goes through the inner wing to the fan.

all is good on the fan front, think the temp sensor has been bypassed to a manual switch, will prob put it back to the switch and test.

Can you get these fans anywhere?!?

I just buy second hand rover ones, in a well set up car they shouldn't have done much work, or need to do much so they get a reasonable life, and they're cheap that way too.

Just ring the local importer / wreckers like mini-imports would be a good start.
