I was just wondering what RPM people were sitting on for around 100-110km/h. Just thinking about taking my car on a bit of a trip however I'm not sure if sitting on around 3800-3900 (Mini K 3.66 diff) for extended periods of time is such a good idea? Any thoughts, is this ok? I'm talking about 3-4 hours highway trip. Seems to sing along quite nicely.

It won't hurt it.
I regularly drove Barney on freeways (and did 2000km around Tassie) with a 3.64 diff.
I have a 3.64 in my 1360 also, never had a problem.

Sompe people like really tall diffs (2.95) for relaxed highway cruising. Some masochists like really low diffs (4.12) for screaming acceleration and don't give a hoot about highway revs. Most people choose something in between.

All choices are a compromise unless you buy a five speed box with overdrive. If what you have works for you, stick with it.

3950rpm(3.44 diff) gives me just over 100kph on the highway in the 1018cc engine. I find once it is here, the small bores are singing and accellerates beautifully when you want to overtake.

Way back when I did a few trips to FNQ from the NSW south coast in my 850. Of course we couldn't afford tachos in those days (not even a temp gauge) but the old (well it was only 3 years old then) would happily sit on 60-65 mph for 3 days..... - each way. The only time it was actually flat out was when you came to a hill... any hill.

These days the 1330 is happy to pull 4k to Melbourne and back...

If i do approximately 3400rpm at 100km/h with 12" wheels (165 60 12 tyres) what diff ratio would that mean i have?

3.1 i reckon. same as me.

3.7 diff at 100km is around 4100-4200rpm my 1100 dont mind it at all

Assuming 165/70R10 tyre

RPM's at 100kph as follows:

2.75 = 3008
2.95 = 3226
3.1 = 3390
3.2 = 3500
3.44 = 3762
3.64 = 3982
3.76 = 4112
3.93 = 4299

Whay you also have to look at is revs at 120kph, as realistically you will want to reach 120 when overtaking on occasion. (Not me, I never speed. )

Anybody got any tricks to reduce cabin noise at these speeds, I'm getting soft in my old age, I don't remember the Mini been noisy in the 60,s even at 80 + mph must of been the "testosterone"
