Post subject:  Riddle me this "Temp"
Never had a problem A Mini's Tempture. but this is strange
New engine and all has been good till now. had a few dramers with the engine running rich and the leads and coil but they are all fixed now.
Whats happening is when I put the brake on temp goes up by 5-10 degree's. I thought maybe the thermostat wasn't working so changed that & flushed the system 4 times and also pumped the top hose for good measure (air bubble). Nothing has changed. So I thought I would test a few things. Does it happen with the clutch only "nope" Just Up hill or down hill "nope"
While Parked on the Driveway (up Hill) hand brake on, press the brake and Temp rises 10 degrees :shock: WTH

electric gauge? i'd be chasing the smoke in the wires first before validating the temp rise. :)

Check the volts running to gauge when you put your foot on the brake, sounds like brake light circuit is pulling the volts away from the rest of the circuits.
If it is I would start looking at all the earth points and clean them up, then clean fittings in rear lights.

I would agree also but its steady all the way to 80. But I will check anyway tomorrow. Another thing I will try tomorrow is take the air filter off and see if that has a differnace

I had a Gemini years ago with a temp gauge that "ticked" slightly in time with the indicators. I cleaned up all the earths under the dash and the problem didn't get any better. Finally the alternator gave way and I replaced it with an internally regulated one. Problem solved! WTF?

Not saying this is your problem here though. Earth/wiring issues are more likely.

It would mean that it has nothing to do with the motor and everything to do with the wiring.

Yep that has to be it then. Checked this out this morning. Also found checked this afternoon. after parking the car and temp was 100 I turned the motor off and turn the key to Acc..Hmm 80. Turn the motor back on and its 110. Time to replace all my gauges and recheck all wires.

Is it a Smiths temp gauge? If so check the voltage stabilizer on back of speedo (unless you've replaced it with a wombat special).

If it's one of mine it would be faulty if that is happening - doesn't matter what is happening on the input side the output never moves off 10 volts.

If it is mine then it's covered under warranty :wink:
