 Post subject: help with disk brakes

hey guys,
ive noticed the new disk brake conversion I put on the front of my leyland aint great, I drive around and can here a grinding noise as if the disk is warped. but everything is new, lines, calipers disks,pads.
any ideas?

Is the growling just under braking or cornering or just all the time?
By growl, do you mean a squeal or a mechanical growl, like metal creeping over metal?

Might be a long shot but what rims are you using?
I know the LS countesses will foul on S brakes if you don't grind a bit off the caliper bleed nipple area.

i find on some cars, no matter how new, straight and true everything is sometimes the disc does not push the pad back out far enough after braking... and you always get that rubbing noise of the pad on disc...

i find dialling in 18 on the stereo fixes it :D

+1 for the LS contesta/contessa, I had to file down the corner of my calipers to fit inside the rim without rubbing.

i have been having a play and it seems the disks wobble slightly for some reason,
dont know why,
ive tightened the nuts on everything seems a little better

you may want to check that the screws that hold the rotor to the drive flange are not too long & rub on the caliper

there are many things to watch-out for,,, best to have it all checked by your local mini -specialist,,, i`d hate to hear you have a crash because it wasn`t all fitted & clearanced correctly

Here's your answer! I just finish fitting my 7.5 cooper disc's and found that the rough casting on the steering arm was touch the inside of the disc. Took the steering arms off and ground the rough bits off.

Now with your loose bearing it may be that there should be a small white nylon spacer that sits between the CV and the inner wheel bearing. Did you have one of these?

How tight did you do the cv joint up? If you've got play in the wheel, and your getting a grinding noise, there is a good chance it's loose and your drive flange is grinding away.

ah yes, very common that one,,, i can`t believe i forgot to mention it,,, getting old :-) & why am i typing into my microwave oven anyways? ;-)
