Hello All

I know this will have been asked before, I have tried to search and came up with nothing. What are the legalities of changing the leyland front to a morris?

Sorry to be a pain

Steve

There was a thread recently regarding this but I cannot remember details other then clubby fronts are post ADR rules and round nose not. It may affect your compliance but best to check with an engineer.

Michaels thread may be of interest.

It's like marrying your cousin: legal, but frowned upon.

LMAO, I am lucky I don't have a hot cousin. I do appreciate some people on this forum will look down on it, but the simple fact is that I couldn't afford a roundnose, and I was never going to build a factory spec car anyways. The only reason I got this mini is because it came along for $400.

If i can get panels cheap enough (and i get some welding skills) it just means I can the mini that I have in my head at a much cheaper price. Also I would never cut up a rare model mini either, but as far as i can tell mine isn't.

You probably know this already, but it's not as simple as just welding on new wings and front panels -- the internal panels (i.e. engine bay), radiator shroud, etc have to change as well. Big job, and not as cheap as you might imagine unless you have a whole donor front end ready to go.

Thanks for that Sgc

I didn't know that, but there are options around that I am looking into at the moment. It isn't something I am chasing right now, just something I can keep in mind in case a good deal comes along. First thing for me to do is strip it and rebuild and then take care of these things once I have the engine/brakes/body is sorted.

Then you've got a big problem about your bonnet not lining up to Leyland hinge positions..

Get a front cut from Japan and use the whole thing. I assume it has to be un-stitched to weld it on though.

So what happens to the ID numbers here? A front cut is a major repair. Is this permitted? How much replacement of panels are allowed? What ID number does it accept? I don't wish to hijack this thread but it relates to the Cooper "S" Numbers one.

Thanks for highjacking  , this is exactly the sort of stuff I am after, I didn't think of that part of it. Has anyone on this forum completed a conversion before and registered it?

Well by all reports it is illegal. Some members commented on the Cooper "s" Numbers thread ,but, all seems to be forgotten here.I hope that we get a reply to prove my hunch incorrect. One, therefore on a Mk 2 Cooper "S",must protect their radiator surround at all costs. It appears that if it gets damaged and is not repairable you will have great difficulty in identifying it as a genuine Coope "S". This is a dreadful situation ,if true .There must be alternatives.
Oh,by the way,how many panels can be replaced before a car loses its status?
