Post subject: | BEST AIR FILTER |
Hi All, I've changed from a 6" inch long RAMTUBE and replaced with RAMFLO air filter, now is running like a pig. I took the ramtube off as I put the standard dash centre binnacle back in, but the ramtube now impedes the speedo cable, so changed to the ramflo on the single 1.5 SU, the manifold is 20mm longer so can't fit the big metal air intake. It appears that the ramflo element/sponge material is restricting airflow. IS there, better air filter to use has any one else had a similiar problem? ALL suggestions welcome |

Piper Cross ramtube socks I have found to be the best out of all that I have tried (Ramflo, K&N, Unifilter). Low to no restriction, easy to take off and pop on for cleaning |

You can get right angle speedo adapters that will stop the cable fouling on the ramtube. I can't find a link to any at the moment but a lot of early british cars use them. Cheers Pete Edit: Found one but not cheap |

Ramflo filters do have too much restriction, but just use Unifilter's polyurethane foam pads in them instead. Unifilter's p/nos: LNX300 for SU, LNX400 for Weber/Dellorto. $9.20 each the last time I bought any. [edit] My 1360 got 86.6HP ATW with one of these on, I have the trophy to prove it. My 1412 stroker got 114HP at the crank, same setup- it made the same HP with and without the filter on it. So the Unifilter foam's restriction is minimal. |
