just trying to figure out what carb would suit my engine best
it is a 1100s motor pretty well stock as far as I'm aware
so what would give me the best performance (without body mods)?

1 1/2 SU would be a good starting point. No mods required

Either an HIF44 or an HS6 SU, on either an MG Metro or Minispares manifold.

They originally came out with 1 1/4 SU, single, so the engineers that designed the motor back in the late 60s must have known that would be sufficient for normal operation.

Twin 1 1/4 SU was always the first mod for a little more power, but the single is just fine.

Nope the 1100S (1275) all had an 1-1/2 stock, not 1-1/4...

I think the main reason for fitting twin carbys on the improved models was appearance.
Sure it will improve performance over a single 1¼" but the main thing was how it was perceived by the public.
A 1¾ will perform as good as two 1¼ but it will not look like it does.

yeah cool
i have a set of twin 1 1/2's that need to be rebuilt and was just wondering whether to stick with these or go down the hif44/hs6 route as what i have heard is that they are just as good

Rebuilding twin SUs properly (if paying for it) costs serious $$$ now. And IMO twin 1.5s are overkill on an otherwise stock 1275.

I'm not an expert but my 1275 hoots along stock with a HS6. I gather it is a lot simpler than trying to tune twin carbs too.

by far the ultimate carburettor is a Weber.
The SU supposedly will wear and give you great dramas after 10-20,000km. Not worth the hassle.

Or something... :?

Cheer up... :P
I don't hate SUs...
Here's what's going back on my 1412 when it's in the wife's van... HS6, ported Minispares manifold with 20mm spacer.

Hi All,

My two bob's...

although I love the twin's on my Landcrab I'm going to put a single on my Mini, fiddling with one set of twin's is enough :D
