Hope someone can help!

Claude, my 970S is at VICROADS and the dude there does not like the engine number being on a plate rivetted to the block.

Was this an approved method? I am clueless as it is a pommie car :?

The factory in aus removed the rivited plates and stamped the number back into the block. It's what you're supposed to do with import engines.

Harley, OK I get that.
This engine is in a car I have imported from Enzud. I am guessing the Kiwis didn't do that.

Was it customary for English engines to have their numbers on an attached plate?

Yes they all did (on A series) in UK. No villains (convicts) there, obviously.
If Vicroads don't like it, take it to the Vic Police and get approval to have it stamped.
There is a nationwide numbering system of police issued numbers for bare blocks, but as you have the engine # plate and it matches the paperwork they should let you get yours restamped to match.

Thanks Doc.

Looks like we try again later then. Dam and drat  Seems a shame that a car that has survived and been looked after since 1965 now needs 'modification'.

So, I just wander into the local copshop and ask for a form allowing me to remove the tag and stamp that same number on the block?

Who do I get to stamp the bleeding thing?

Grumble, grumble....seems very naff to me.
