Just In... This is not about minis but in genral.. 15 Year Rule Well, it finally happened: The Federal Government announced that, as of 13/5/05, the “15 year” Import Scheme has now been altered to a “Pre 1989” Import Scheme. In a nutshell it means that (apart from RAWS/SEVS imports) only cars built before 1/1/1989 can be imported without full RAWS compliance. Some of the popular models that were built in 1988 and therefore still eligible are: Cefiro RX7 Series III & IV Silvia Mercedes (several Models) Any existing stock purchased by agents in Japan before the changes were announced (contact Imports101 for details) MR2 (AW11, 'wedge shaped') R31 Skyline AE86 Corolla Supra (MA70, i.e MK3) NOTE: There will obviously be a limited number of 1988 model cars available in Japan so the demand (from Australia) will start to increase, in turn pushing the price of these cars up even further. If you are thinking of getting into a Cefiro or similar do it fast as they will soon be more expensive. Import Process delays Unfortunately due to the large number of 15 Year Old vehicles bought over the past 3 months, the import process has been slowed somewhat. Shipping was a little more difficult to book, customs clearance definitely proved more difficult and compliance times (in some cases) took longer. THIS WAS A TEMPORARY PROBLEM and will not affect anyone buying cars to be imported as of now. Our workload has returned to normal and we can again provide the service that built us our reputation. |

They didn't have EFI then either, but do you understand what Cush was getting at? Good. Now, the more realistic solution is the old switcheroo on the body plates. Not exactly legal, though. |

Its too easy to get away with this stuff. Grind off ya block numbers, drill and rivet new ID plates, punch some new body numbers and HEY PRESTO. Ugh i know of a car thats had it done. And how many police do you know that pull you over and check block/body/id numbers? ![]() ![]() |
