Hi guys, I got my self a speedo i was told was out of a mini morris but am now being told that its from a moke, im curious to find out if it is going to work in my mini or will i have to source another one? my mini is about to go in for its road worthy check so that i can register it, any one got any ideas? the only numbers i can find on the back is on a sticker which are "119" or "611" depending on which way you look at it.

do you mean is the speedo going to simply work, as in operate or work and be accurate in its reading once on your car?

Since he's taking it in for its roadworthy, it will need to be fairly accurate. If memory serves, your speedo is allowed to read up to 10% above the actual speed, and it cannot read any less than the actual speed. But don't quote me on those figures.

what he would like to know is will the speedo read right.

if its a moke seedo in a mini with 10's and we belive a 3.44 final drive, will it be ok ? how far out would it be and is there a list of what seepdo parts numbers belong to what ?

sorry, yeah im trying to work out if it is going to be reasonably accurate so that i can use it on the road with out having to worry about getting fined or similar.

For some background on it all. TPM (turns per mile) can be found on the speedo face, right near the odometer.

thanks for the replies guys. from what i can tell it says 1408 tpm. which would throw it out by 9%. is there a way i can correct this with out it costing me a fortunte? or will i have to get another speedo?

There is a 140KMH Moke speedo with 800 turns/km, that is pretty close to a Cooper S's 1280 turns/mile (suits 3.44 diff and 10" wheels).
the 800 is marked on the front face.....

Some one measures speedo accuracy???? Not in NSW.

Run it against a GPS and draw up a correction chart.

Any instrument shop will calibrate your speedo - which is adjustable . The odometer is not "adjustable" so needs physical correction of the associated gearing (which is not too difficult).

The other common Moke 140KMH one is 860 turns/km (also is marked on the front face).
I put one in Barney (10" wheels) with a 3.64 diff, and it was spot on over the 5km test markers on the M4.

Connect the speedo cable to a drill and try old and new speedo. If they both show the same speed at sthe same drill RPM - it'll fit. If not, you need to do the math as has been described.
