Hi,

Last week my mini was running well, though as i got close to home it lost power and started to stall.

I had a play around with it today, and it seems to idle okay, though as i slowly increase the revs it starts to cough and splutter and backfire. I have checked the carbys and spreayed some cleaner down their throats though it didnt make much difference. I also removed the plugs and they were sooted up quite badly, I cleaned them up though it hasnt made much of a difference.

Any suggestions as to what the problem may be?

any help is appreciated!!

Thanks

Roc

I'd be saying timing. Have you marked where where the dizzy prior and now retarded. The other thing could be the Piston in the SU could be sticking

Hi Roc!

From what I can gather from your symptoms, I wouldn't mind betting it's your condenser in your dissy. Providing you have a standard mini one that is.
I had a similar problem with my mini once. A new condenser to replace the day old Bosch one cured it.

Regards, Lindsay

+1 for okminik.

When mine backfired badly I found that there was a small crack in the distributor cap. Replacing the cap, condensor and rotor solved the problem. Just remember to set the correct gap for the points.
