Post subject:  rego for betsy...

hey there

me and gordie have narrowed it down to these few things to be fixed before rego

1) wipers
2) reverse light
3) number plate light
4) get it listed as a 2 seater..
5) rear lights (not indicators)

thats it...

ahhh also, what about numbers on the side of cars... would I need to put a cross through them if i put them on?

Correct me if i'm wrong, but i dont think you'l necessarily need a reverse light - esp if the car didnt have one from the factory. when i get a pink slip, they test all external lights, except for the reverse light - there must be a reason for this.

As long as both of your indicators come on solid as a reverse light it's perfectly legal. They can not pick on you for something that came outta the factory. I dont exactly know what year Betsy is, but if the car is post 64 then it was compying with some form of ADR's. If it came outta the factory satisfying ADR's of the time, they cant do dingle about it.

Otherwise every car these days would be required to have the latest pollution equipment, retractable seat belts etc etc etc. Ant that's just not feasible.

Wipers, Number Plate light, and Tail/Stop lights MUST be working to pass Roadworthy/Safety Certificate.

As to numbers on the side of the car, its got nothing to do with the safety of the car, and many race (rally) car's must be registered to compete. I see no reason they should pick on ya for that.

I realize your in tas.. but when I asked vic-roads about registering a datsun stanza as a 2-seater if I took out the rear seat and seat belts, they told me that it would need an engineers certificate.. and that would cost more than the reduction in price of rego. :?

yup, since yer changing information that's supplied on the Compliance plate, you will need an Engineer's Certificate and a Modification plate riveted to your car, with the new information on it

bugga!!! looks like the roll cage is coming out again!!! (oh btw u got a pic of the stanza?) cause my back seats dont fit in with the roll cage... and my seat belts.... I will have to get new ones, ones that go round your wast cause there is a new rear parcel shelf, with no holes for the belts!!

and thanks to all you other guys, its been really helpful to read that.

cheers, ill let you know how it goes..

no no... you can still keep the cage.. and can certainly take the seats out... however... if you want to register it as a 2-seater.. THEN you need an engineers.... otherwise.. just register it as a 4-seater as it was in the first place. ;)
btw.. stanza not worth taking pic of... it was an "idea" car.. sold it recently to a mate.

the seats wont fit in with the roll cage there... plus i got the belt problem.. if i was to get it registerd as a 2 seater, would it cost much down here to do so? plus u seen the pic of my old stanza?

thats cool.. you dont have to have 4 seats remaining, for it to be registered as a 4-seater.
what I mean is... if you change the seating capacity on your rego papers.. you need to get it engineered... and the only reason you might want to do that.. is because its a cheaper rego(in vic anyway)
so if you rip the back seats out.. well and good.. but still register it as a 4-seater. ;)

naah man.. never seen your stanza I dont think.
