My recent purchase of a '64 Mini has turned out to be not quite as I thought.... Sold to me as a 'sliding window' car that at some stage had had it's windows changed (how they would do that I do not know...). After chatting to Grey 64 and Matt at the Muster today, it appears that my car may be a '65 and should have the wind up windows.

The chassis number prefix of YMA2S3 is, I believe, an unusual one. Can anyone shed any light on this model and it's correct specifications please....

Many thanks in anticipation,
Mark.

YMA2S3 is a Morris Mini Minor.
It is the replacement for the Morris 850 based on the Australian Mini Deluxe using more local content.

Congrats, they are are rare item. :D

Mark, I think your car is something rare given its low build number and definately worth holding onto. It was good to convoy with you to the muster and then meet you today. I'll hopefully visit you very shortly. Thanks heaps for your offer , you made my muster super 8) .Cheers Anthony.

Mark, there was a morris mini minor there yesterday but the compliance plate says it is a YMSA2S2. This is a completely unmolested original car except for the mags that were added before I fitted 'S' brakes to it.

I did look at that one, Spence told me about it and we looked it out... As you say, the YMA2S2 number trew me a bit.... So why is yours on the Delux number and not the Minor number...?

Mark.

Blokes stamping the plates sometimes got them wrong- eg. my `70 Matic's body prefix is YA2S5 and some dill stamped the compliance plate YG2S5- go figure.
They are human, after all.

Thanks but I think you'll find that YG3S8 is a different model to the YMA2S3....

:?

Hey mark,,, good to meet you at the muster, & i expect that guy is showing the GT body plate because it`s supposed to be YG2S8,,, not 3S8,,, just another example of the stampings going wrong with the drunken Leyland workers :-)

Hi Mark

I think he was just putting up another example of someone at the factory making a mistake as this plate should have YG2S8

It was going a bit further into explaining why your Minor is numbered differently to the white one at the muster.

At least that's how I read it :D

Cheers
steve

YG3S8 must have been a hatchback.

S = Saloon, as used on the Morris 1100, 1800, 4 door Marina, Kimberley, P76, etc.
2S = 2 door saloon, as used on the Mini, 2 door Marina.
3S = 3 door saloon, as used on the Leyland Force 7 (and one Clubman GT! )

YG2S5 would indicate that it was a 1098 matic, but these only went into the Morris 1100, not the Mini.
YA2S5 is 998, which is what the `matic got.
In UK they got an 850 automatic, now that would be a slug.

I have an 850 Automatic in the UK and I have to say, it's a joy to drive and by no means a slug....!

The Mini Autos need care.... they MUST be warmed up fully before driving and the oil and filter must be changed very reguarally.....!

Sorry, I misunderstood the posts above re mis stamped plates...

Mat, great to meet you too... I must take a trip over to see you sometime...

Anyone have any specifications for my YMA2S3 Morris Mini Minor....?

Cheers,
Mark.
