I know there's "smart" people out there, but wouldn't it be easier if you could put pictures straight up from your computor? Just for us non computer literate old fossils.

Yes but it'd need tremendous bandwidth and hosting space; neither of which are quite viable for a free forum.

Some Forums have a "manage attachments" button that let you do just that, but the catch is there are size restrictions and the average jpeg straight off your >6MP camera is probably too big already.

In order to do that the Ausmini server would have to host the picture and that wold cost a lot more - cheaper to send them to Photo bucket or Facebook the link to them

It would be easier but it would also be more expensive to run.

I'd have to check with Simon or Scott, but I believe after more than 7 years, this place still only uses less then 500 meg in total storage on the server. If we added photos, that would be eaten up with just one good restoration thread. This keeps the forum a cheaper and therefore non-subscription affair.

I know your grief however, but once you have photobucket weighed off, its not bad. I take pictures on my phone which automatically uploads it to photobucket. So they're ready to add in by the time I've finished posing the question.

I have for years hosted my pics with my ISP, I get a whole 200MB of webspace for the purpose. :P
I just make sure the pics are small- I resize to 640x480 or 800x600 before hosting.
This saves lotsa space and saves people having to scroll the pic about coz it's too damn big for the screen. Don't ya hate that...

Some other ISPs give you more room, eg iiNet lets you have 1GB.
