As above, would like to know what cones you guys are using ?

Also Suspension geometry angles.

Building up my front subframe ATM and am lloking for reference. If not it'll be in with some old hard cones!

Cheers.

I used second hand old cones on the front of my clubman and can't get it off the top bumper rubbers. Still don't know what to do.

Give Ken Nelson a call from Mini Automotive QLD - he sets mine up. Sorry, but I don't know all of the details.

good luck finding a racer willing to give you their suspension secrets!

theres pretty good generic info for setting up minis around though.

low as you can go, little bit of neg camber, as much caster as you can steer, little bit of toe out.

on the back keep it straight, or a bit of toe out if you know what you're doing.

even on a racecar you still want the suspension to travel so some decent cones not old sagged ones.

and some good adjustable dampers so you can play with the stiffness ;)

i dont have a group N car, but this is pretty basic stuff.

New cones not old ones ...

http://www.minisport.com.au/prod873.htm
These will do the trick ... Depending on how serious you are they should be replaced once every season ..

Keep it off the bump stops .. -3deg camber on the front 1/8th toe out .. +5-6 deg castor ..

On the rear 3mm total toe in -2deg camber

get some decent new shocks ( it makes a world of difference )

White car handles well mine does not

Wow throwing around all these crazy numbers without much thought!

What about tyre choice?

Those "donuts" that Beanie linked to are what I ran in my Nc car when they were first released (I think they have remained unchanged in compound etc) and absolutely transformed the car.

The numbers i was throwing around were if i was running a yokohama AO32r

im currently in the process of switching too hoosiers so have to dial out alot of camber

SuperCooper, if you are setting up a car, you have to set it up to what your happy with, I have tried 4 different types of cones and I have settled with STD cones, but its up to you!

Yeah Im sure its all trial and error and practise and testing, buts its good to hear everyones experiences and ideas.

Some people have suggested camber/castor angles they run and that is a mighty helpful start.

There is a myriad of cone choices from old hard rear cones to new standard cones / red dot yellow dot, even silicon cones from Jpn.

It is not "basic stuff" when there are so many variables involved.

Have adj bottom arms / tie bars/high lows/ Gaz adj shocks.

I have always thought old hard cones from the rear of a car would work well , but am open ti ideas thats for sure.

Will prob run AO32's .

When I bought my Nb car it had old cones all round....

I then tried the Yellow spec ones but too stiff (especially at Oran park)

Am now running the Reds at the front and new std at the rear....
These settled a lot and I have had to re-adjust but look to be stable now...

But I've a long way to go to get everything set up and happy at it's best...

are you racing? if no then most of those numbers may not be ideal. big camber and lots of toe on a road car are going to wear tyres out and effect low speed handling.. youl not in the photos that race cars produce pretty agressive roll angles when cornering, hence needing more neg. camber then a road car, if u are racing then i just wasted your time

just a thought..

cheers

Location: Sydney - strangely, I am glad of the sight of hills!!
Where in NSW are you?

I had mine set up by Greig Malaure at Mini Classic. I specified supersprints, hillclimbs and dirt/grass khanacross as mine is an all purpose hack. For AO32Rs it came back with -2deg camber on the front, -1/2deg at the back. Can't remember the rest of the settings, but for such a general purpose car, it will always be a compromise. I could probably go another 1 - 1.5 deg neg on the front for tarmac only.

The settings must be good because I took it to europe and managed to do quite well in the slaloms over there. If I knew how to drive I would have done even better

If you are in Sydney, I would find out how much it is for Greig to set it up for you - he knows what he is doing!

cheers
michael
