Post subject:  stuck heater bolts on engine

I have tried to be a smart arse and get rid of the heater. thought i could just turn the plate around with the hose attachment and plug it all back together, presto . NO NO NO

I have somehow got one of the nuts moving but not moving up the bolt any suggestions?

Are you talking about the outlet on the head ????

Okay - there is a couple of ways to go about this.

Firstly tighten it down again but don't over tighten it (to much pressure and the stud wil snap) then source another two similar and same sized nuts. Run the first of these down the thread but so it is still with space above the nut holding the heater outlet.

Run the second nut down the thread until it comes in contact the the nut sitting above the nut holding the outlet. Lock these two nuts together against each other using two spanners in opposite directions. Then hold one spanner on the top nut as though you are tightening it down.

The with the other spanner simply undo the the "object" holding down the outlet. It should just undo and the lock nuts should stop the stud turning

Nut is stripped I'd say.
Grind 1 corner off it until you get to the stud, it should then pull off with a pair of sidecutters under it.
To remove the stud, fit 2 good/new nuts and lock them together, undo.
I prefer to use Grade 5 bolts there instead of studs & nuts....

Okay - I interpretted that as being the nut AND stud were turning. On a re-read I see it the Doc's way.

Guys, sorry what size are these bolts?

Stud is 1/4 UNF, the nut's hex size is 7/16".
If buying bolts get 1/4UNF x 3/4" long, high tensile (Grade 5).
