G’day,

I have decided to paint my engine, and I’m going to go the BMC green colour. But I’m tossing up what parts exactly (of the engine) I am going to paint.

I was originally going to paint the lot (rocker cover, head, block, starter motor, gearbox etc...) but I think it might be too green... and after stripping the old paint off it all, I think the box looks good in the bright silver of the metal.

So I am now after some pics of what you guys have done, your own opinions (seeing them in the flesh) and what was actually original.

Please post up your pics and give me your opinions.

Cheers
Mark

Well i'll have a go, this is my 850. went with this green as there were traces of it already and wanted originality. After some research it turned out i had a choice of this green and a darker shade. cant remember the name

Thanks for the pic , looks very clean! I think the BMC green I have bought is a bit darker. What type of paint did you use? And what prep did you do?

I’ve undertaken a bit of a process preparing it, paint stripping on the weekend, a marine clean product on Tues, then a metal ready product last night, so the engine is now ready to paint, can’t wait to see how it turns out.....

I think I’ll trawl the net and this site to look at different pics of engines to help me decide what bits to paint.

Cheers

Omeron Coatings Mini metallic paint, hand brushed...
I find brushing gives better adhesion onto castings than spraying does.

I don't know what is correct, but the radiator bracket looks best black.

I used the BMC metallic green metallic and re sprayed with the engine in place with lots of masking. I was lucky it was already this colour it just needed a freshen up.

I used a preval spray pressure pack and the results were exellent, and I'm normally crap when it comes to painting. I tried with a brush but the metallic tended to look uneven.

Well, gave her a coat of paint this arvo, and to be honest I hate it!! :x :x

You may ask why i kept painting, cause i thought it would look better once it was one, nope.... (i'll put up some pics soon)

I'm not gunna strip it and repaint it though, i'll just hope it looks better once all the bits are back on and in the engine bay. (particularly since the engine paint wasnt cheap)

No great loss though, i wasnt going to paint it originally and it still looks better than it did, so all good.

Thanks for your help guys.

I have had the pleasure. Would look awesome with a set of 10x6 Minators and a Rylstone Classic sticker on the bonnet.
