basically looking to get a 1/3/4 inch s.u. which would be the best bang for my buck a hif44 or hs6. is a hif44 1/3/4,,, i ve read somewheree that the inlet is the same diameter.

pros cons .... what do you suggest. for my 1275.
cheers

I prefer the HS6, Graham Russell does too. They are simpler then the HIF44 and don't have that choke O-ring problem. Also much cheaper to buy S/H.
An HIF44 allegedly gives slightly more power than a stock HS6, but Graham got 140HP+ at the crank from his 1400 with a slightly modded HS6 on it..

Of course, to get this sort of power, you need a really good flowing manifold- like the Russell Engineering RE7. But I couldn't fit it in my car with an air filter (I have a centre speedo) so I sold it and bought a Minispares one. Nowhere near as good, but at least I could fit an air filter. Having seen what road grit they trap, no way would I run a road car without one.

whats a RE7 worth?? cant imagine it'll be a cheapie. mmm i'm still slightly undecided now. i'm thinking bang for buck so i'll think about this hif44.

Sean, probly best to stick with an HS6,,, they`re cheaper, easy to set-up, easy to tune & you probly won`t find ay benefit going to the HIF, just cost you more & more difficult to set-up & tune :-)

the std late model (4-bolt) manifold will do,,, with a bit of a tidy up, (die-grind) make a far better radius inside , as well as making it bigger internally, simple to do & cheap to do

alternatively there are some cheap-ish alloy 4-bolt inlet manifolds on the market (even on e-bay) that work a treat too,,, easy to work with & actually work quite well in fact,,, with that tidy up of course

the Russel inlet manifold will be a bit of a pain to set-up, with clearance issues & of course cost a packet more

not saying they`re mo good of course, because obviously they work extreamly well,,, i like them in fact, but they are a bit of a pain & cost a chunk more

you won`t get the benefits from it tho,,, --> in my opinion

You said "Bang for buck,,, so late 4-bolt manifold, worked a bit,,, HS6 carb ,,, set it up,,, bung in an OA6 needle with red spring & you`ll be away with the best bang for buck you can get

in my opinion

Minispares used to do a big port version of their alloy manifold, but it seems that it's been discontinued a while back.
On my Minispares manifold, I've fitted a 20mm thick alloy spacer. This will be ported out, enlarging the entry to the manifold with a nice big radius from where the carb bolts on.
It won't be as good as an RE7 manifold, but should flow way better than stock.
I will post the flow figures from GR's flowbench in a month or so when I've got around to doing it.
