Post subject: | Strange noise from front when passenger present |
Hi all! As the title suggests, whenever I've got someone in the passenger seat I get this strange ticking noise coming from the front end somewhere. It's the same noise regardless of who is there, so it's not the passenger themselves ![]() My ride has also become quite rough, I'm thinking maybe it's time to pay some attention to the suspension? I had the shocks replaced in 2003, not sure about the rubber bits. Everyone complains that a ride in the mini is so bumpy, usually these are people who are used to the smoothness of modern cars. But maybe it shouldn't be as bumpy as it is? And maybe if I replace some suspension bits, the ticking will go? |

New ball joints, knuckle joints, lower arm bushes, tie rod rubbers and inspect the top arm pin and bearings definitely aren't going to hurt! |

I had a similar issue with our toyota hilux. Whenever there was a passenger, it would 'click' when entering a corner and 'click' when leaving the corner. Turned out one of the bolts holding the front of the seat down was loose. Worth a look anyway. |

It's not the minister of finance ![]() I noticed that the noise is there when i was by myself the other day too (but only at 90-100km/h), it is just more pronounced when someone is riding shotgun. Replaced front bearings about 12-18 months ago, so that's not it. Seems to be a constant noise, eases o a bit with a slight turn of the wheel. When a passenger is present it is more pronounced upon acceleration. Cheers |

Have you actually taken the wheeh off for a look yet to check and rule out the obvious? Just cause the wheel bearings were replaced 12 months ago doesn't mean they might not be knackered. Check ball joints, these are important, and with the wheel on full lock and the car in neutral rotate the driveshafts to see if something sounds off like a CV or something. |
