Post subject: | Brake lights |
Hi Guys, I am having a small drama with my brake lights and I am after some clear direction on how to fix it. The lights work but only when I depress the brake pedal really hard, I have looked up under the dash but I can't get my sausage like fingers up into the space to adjust where the back of the pedal pushes up to complete the circuit for the lights (thats a guess) ![]() I know this would be a easy job for most so I would appreciate any help. Thanks in advance. Kevin |

Are you sure you've got the switch on the pedal box and not the 60s pressure switch on the top of the front right brake hose? The pressure switches tend to be crap these day, either from age or poor aftermarket quality. If you have the pedal switch, find somone with smaller hands to adjust it. ![]() |

Just bend the tab that the switch is fastened to, there is no adjustment. |

Sounds like the pressure switch on the subframe. When they muck up it takes a lot of pressure to get them to come on. (well they are 40 years old!) Get a new switch and it should last another 40 years (unless you get a cheap one!) |

Minis up till about 77 were fitted with a hydraulic pressure switch and it is mounted on the brake pipes on the front subframe under the clutch end of the engine. If it was built in 77 or 78 (or if it has been modified) it will have a switch on the brake pedal. If the symptoms are like you say I would guess it is an earlier type. |

or just fit on under the pedal ![]() it's a pain to replace that with the engine in the way. |

Here is some more info (see link below) from a previous thread on the same subject. I gave up after a few pressure switches and put on a mechanical one. If the switches ever improve I will go back to pressure for originality. http://www.ausmini.com/forums/viewtopic ... sc&start=0 |
