Post subject:  wheel alignment issues

Hi lads

recently i have fitted new ball joints top & bottom both sides..
new wheel bearings all around the car..
new cv's to the right only repacked bearings in all the boots all fresh..
grease in all points are greased everything including pot joints just incase.

now my car seems to be pulling alot to the left, ONLY after i swapped the the rear wheels to the front to combat this vibration i was having.

then i swapped them back & it is still pulling to the right & feels really un easy over 90ks still. vibration seems to have been the rear left wheel bearing.

now i have double triple checked everything, i can't see what is going wrong.

im going to fit new rod ends for the steering rack & front tie bar bushes then get it re aligned.

what has me stumped is why would it still keep pulling right after swapping the wheels then swapping them back.

i can also feel a vibration when turning to the right only at speeds over 80ks wich i think was the rear wheel bearing, have not been out on the highy way to check this yet.

im going to take it to a wheel place and get it checked, i'm just stumped. everything is new & it was straight untill the wheel bearings all died & now it's all a skew!.

all i can think is all the new stuff i fitted has maybe thrown it all out or maybe it's bedding in slightly? would ball joints do that?

Tyres are the first suspect. Make sure they all have the same pressure, are balanced and the treads are running in the correct direction (lots only work one way).
If they're unevenly worn have the older ones on the back.

Once all thats known, then look at the other stuff.

well,,, you said it pulls to the left,,,, then you said it "Still" pulls to the right

so,,, whichever way it pulls , i`d be looking at the steering arm,,, or the rack,,, or both

the steering arms are bolted to the swivel hubs with 2x bolts (ontop of the hub)

the rack could have a worn bush in the laft hand end , or a sloppy pinion assy in the right hand end,,, or maybe even the ball-sockets (in the end of the rack-shaft, & the start of the tie-rods)

you probably need to look at it a bit harder,,, all these things i`ve listed are very common mini problems these days

have fun & be careful who you take your mini to for a wheel alignment, heaps of "so called" specialists have absolutely no idea how to set-up a mini properly... let alone know what they`re looking at :-) much like yourself :-)
