After cruising in the 850 for 20mins it became impossible to select a gear without pumping the pedal first. Today i checked the adjustments and all looks to be in order. Any ideas?

I set the stop screw on the cover when hot, as expansion of the gearcase etc tends to increase pedal free play.
I like to have around 20mm or so freeplay at the pedal.
What gap is then at the stop screw, I have NFI. Some gap = OK.

Yes the symptoms do indicate this ^^^
If you buy a new slave I would use the seal spreader out of the old one.
Reason: new ones are wrong shape, don't spread seal, = seals don't last long...
