Now I know that we all experience leaks on our minis which is why I have come to you guys. My car seems to have a irregular leak, it looks like it comes from around the starter which I know sounds odd..... I have checked the clutch bell housing hole at the bottom and no oil... The leak runs from somewhere around the starter thats where I see it... It looks oily but wondering if brake fuild? Fluid is ok but not sure where level was... Do the boosted brake res's leak at the join to master cylinder? All input would be great |

is it Oil ?? Brake fluid ?? or water/coolant ??? Put some on your finger and smell it. Post a photo and we can collectively throw opinions at you. Mike |

A leak from near the starter can often be from the base of the distributor or even the oil pressure sender unit. |

What colour is it first? Black / brown is oil, Green / clear / rusty brown should be coolant Brake fluid will be same as whats in your master cylinder. (so theres a tip for fluid changes: I use blue brake fluid and green coolant, so its easy to tell one from another)

ok brake fluid is brown as is the oil! lol So that really doesn't help but i can rule out coolant! Main issue i have is seeing the problem as it is hidden behind my Aircon. doesn't always seem to leak either! But it is damp on the underside of the starter which i thought is odd and runs around the clutch housing. So which every it is it ends up crappy coloured from where it travels over! |

If you can wipe some off with your finger and run water over you finger, brake fluid is water soluable and washes off, oil won't and it will stay on. Another thing is oil with taste 'oily' and brake fluid has a bittering additive, so you'll notice. Fliud can leak out between cylinder and booster, there's a seal in end that's spose to stop it. |

ok... leak detected as just behind starter.. the switch in the block.. now the question is.. What switch is that?? It's hooked up to the engine temp guage on the dash.... its a rover... is that right?!? or... is that a oil pressure guage and switch?? Im talking about the standard rover 3 guage dash.. ta |

The switch above and behind the starter is the oil pressure switch. This is the spot you attach an oil pressure gauge, too. |

well... replaced oil pressure switch and after the dyno run today we still have a leak.... i'm now thinking SH*T could be the end seal behind the clutch... as the is oil around the starter.... and on an aircon rover that is not a nice job!!! |
