Years ago I argued why mini guys were doing this. So finally one bloke has now come out and said that he has exported over 350 minis and mokes. Even proper local mini experts engaged and assisted in the export when their daily bread and butter relied on this car staying in Oz. At what time do you stop being a mini fan and decide its about the money right now? |

I think some people just can't see past the dollars. I know why they do it from a 'non caring' point, there's people O/S that want non rusty clean straight cars and are willing to pay good money for them. But from a 'caring'point of view, what happens when they're all gone? Do we buy them back again for ten times more? Sure it makes the ones that are left more valuable but then that pushes up the prices and makes them more enticing to those bas@#rds who steal them, part them and flog them of in pieces. ![]() As for the so called mini experts doing this, they'll just become Hyundai Excel experts or the like. ...........Dickheads ![]() ![]() ![]() |

We have the same issue here - there are a couple of full time exporters and they are the scum of the earth as far as the general mini community seem to think. However I have sold a car to the US - I tried to sell for a very reasonable price but got no takers. Good car, but an 850. Here (and aussie too probably) it's more about the car and less about the history or 'quirkyness'. SO an 850 just gets very little interest. So exported it. Job done. Wish I still had it...usual story..... |

Hiya, I agree with dodge - car lovers shouldn't be limited by the type of cars built in their country. What about Travellers and Pick-Ups - should they be allowed here? Of course they should. I very much doubt ``they'll be all gone'' by exporting a few now and again...... cheers! jon |

So, you disagree with BMC exporting Mokes and Minis during their manufacture as well? At least I can say that I have exported and imported the same Aussie built car ![]() cheers michael |

It's the same old story. If you are concerned about cars being exported, buy them yourself so they aren't. Better they go overseas and are cherished than stay here and rot. When the exchange rate was in their favour Americans were coming to Aus to buy sixties Mustangs and Camaros because there are plenty of good ones here. Some of those cars were probably rescued from scrapyards in the US and restored here because nobody over there wanted them in the US. With the current exhange rate Aus cars would look rather expensive anyway. Cheers, |
