Post subject:  What do you do to secure your car?????
After just one evening out with Claude I need help.

Tried to chill at a local restaurant with Claude out the front but ended up going out 3 times during the night to check that no creep had taken him. (That would have been OK with me in the past but I have given up the fags).

It's an unmolested car and I want to know the best, non-intrusive way to park him and not be paranoid.

Any tips???

And no, I ain't going back on the fags.

Years ago I had a LH Torana Hatch. I fitted a kill switch to the ignition. It saved the car one night in Sydney, they took the battery though.

Whatever you do don't post it on here. There is a couple of crooks that browse this forum. (well I know of one and I have my doubts about another one.)

Rotor button removal.
Negative/earth strap removal (or one of those green screw things).
Tap for fuel line.

A whole number of uninvasive fixes.

Some of those green battery terminals are rubbish these days, you need to find a good one!

Some people have welded a heavy bracket to the handbrake so you can fit a padlock so its locked on , some people have a switch under the dash to cut power to the ignition , some people have a battery cut off switch , one person I know has wooden blocks to put under the pedals ( sounds a bit strange but its about the length of time to to pinch a car ) , one or two people have a switch to cut power to the fuel pump ( they might take it but it wont go far ) , one or two people have two pipe caps so they can disconnect the fuel lines to the carby ( to cap both ends - you get the picture ) etc, etc

Lots of options !!

i'm a big fan of clublocks, i know they're not foolproof and there's a million ways around them, but they do provide a good first line of defence and also highly visible...

after that i think you use as many kill switches as you need in proportion with your paranoia.. one on the fuel pump, one on the battery and one on the coil..

if they're all independantly operated, what are the odds they'll find all three hidden switches?

after that make sure your insurance policy is good, just in case.

If you find yourself checking it, fit a GPS tracker set to trigger as soon as it moves. Oh and carry your mobile phone ;)

On our Mini K I fitted one of those keys in the boot that disconnects the battery, it is a red plastic key that once removed disconnects the battery,
they use them on race cars as a quick means to kill power. Easy as, open boot remove key. Also like the steering wheel lock as mentioned above, bit of a deterrent.

Antique 60's sta-put lock, locks the brake pedal to the steering wheel with a bloody big padlock, the whole thing is hardened so you can't cut or bend it..
OK, yeah they can cut the steering wheel I guess, but this highly visible deterrent is accompanied by other less obvious ones.


:idea: Just don't park your Mini where you can't watch it... if you must go into town, drive a shitbox.:wink:

All you have to do to get a "Race Car type Kill Switch" to work after the key is removed ,is to jam a piece of wood in the top & press down firmly to join the contacts .....They are NOT a disabling /security switch...their sole use is to kill the ignition in a race car [& then only if you use a 4 pin model. With a 2 contact "kill switch" the motor can continue running off the Alternator.

There's no such thing as an un-stealable car. I know too many people who have had them taken on flatbeds.

All you need to do is make it harder than the next car, and/or make it look harder than the next car. The back up is the GPS to find the pricks.

I used to have the ciggy lighter wired to be the button for the starter which was run through a relay and the start on the key was wired into the siren under the rh gaurd.


it work really well, someone tried to take it twice !!, but a pain in the butt if a mate borrowed it .


And yes i have been asked to pick up cars over the years with my flat bed tow truck without keys, locked and / in dodgy set ups and my answewr has always been " prove to ne it's yours "

as basic as the club lock is, it is a deterrent - better they go off and look for an easier car to nick

my old man used to take out the rotor or even a plug and its lead or a wire form the distributor to the coil - something simple if ya know what to do, but always said if it didn't start easy, they'd go nick another car

I've also seen on one of the mini-matic forums a lock that goes from the gear lever to the handbrake
