Post subject:  850 firewall numbers?

Hi guy's

Wondering if it was common to have two numbers stamped on 850 firewalls,
i found the second hidden under the ID plate and covered in factory paint.
The number in view is 24219, and the hidden number is 24292?.

Was this common or was the guy on the stamping machine just having a bad day?.

Cheers,

I've only one number stamped in the firewall and its hidden under the plate - number on the plate and the number on the wall are out by 6 - one ends in 2 the other in 8 - I figures the guy making the plate was short sighted then covered his mistake when he realized.

the other number is the English factory number (more than likely)

quite common on the early cars

Mine has the car number stamped above the ID plate, and another number under the plate (I don't think I recorded it, but I'm fairly sure it was nothing close to the car number or the CKD number). I'd like to know what all the numbers mean, but they're now 50 years old and info is hard to get!

The car number is also stamped on the rear floor behind the passenger seat on mine, towards the sill, and on the driver's side on an earlier Mini (numbers ~10,000 and ~5,000) if that is of interest to anyone!

So does mine, with a difference of around 550 between the two numbers. The number hidden below the plate is lower than the car number.

Will have to check for a floor stamping.

The very early 850s had 2 numbers stamped both on the ID plate and on the body. The ID plate was mounted on the near side (passengers) with one number stamped on the left of the speedo hole and the other on the right.

The Oz car number was the first on the plate with what I believe to be the CKD number following. I also found the Oz car number also stamped on the rear floor directly behind the drivers seat. Miy 850 is a 1960 CKD car probably assembled (or part assembled) here late 1960 or very early 1961.
