Who's put a brake light in their rear window? Where did you source it from and what was the method of securing it there etc etc? I've got the wiring there, and I had one that was stuck to the window using ugly brown glue. Has anyone found a better, less unattractive method? Pics are also welcome. |

I used a Hella (made in NZ)- it works fine but these days there are more attractive options. |

You really need something that seals to the window so that all the light is disbursed out through the glass. I've seen people mount "taillight" type units on the rear shelf of all sorts of cars that face out the back, but when you brake at night it lights up the interior of the car. |

Thanks boys. Doc, I assume you just picked your hella one up from the local auto one/supercheap etc. I'm happy to stick it to the window, I just want it to look a bit neater than my previous mess. Keep the good helping coming team. |

Keep the good helping coming team. I got it from AutoBarn, if they don't have it they can order it. Cost me $43 years ago.. Watch which Hella model you get, you want the `5239 Matrix LED High Level Brake Lamp - Wagon', to get the light projection horizontal in a Mini. |

I also fitted the Hella type. Very neat fitting with a nice mask that covers the double sided tape from the outside. Only problem is if car is left in the sun on hottish days it falls off. This is despite following the installation instructions to the letter. IMHO all Minis should have one of these if you intend driving in todays traffic. How many Minis have we seen rear ended on this forum alone!!! Mini rear brake lights just dont make it in todays traffic!!! Interestingly the Mini that I have fitted the rear brake light to was rear ended and subsequently written off by insurance before I bought it. Now nicely repaired of course. |

Sweet action. I'll look into it. Out of interest, do people have them mounted at the top of the window or the bottom near the parcel shelf? My wiring runs along the parcel shelf, so obviously I'll be looking to mount mine low. Otherwise there's issues getting the wiring behind the headlining etc. |

I tried it at top but it is bulky, & interrupts your field of view. There are prettier lamps about now, all you want is a nice narrow strip of LEDs.. ![]() |

I bought a thin LED strip from ebay - 99c plus $5 shipping. The Velcro mounts were a joke so mounted the mounts on the glass (top) with clear silicone. Works a treat.......cheap insurance - easy to remove if necessary. No obstruction when looking out the back. |

I brought a thin strip LED one off eBay - it has a pedestal leg in the middle with screw holes to attach - it has a universal swivel head attaching the strip to the leg so it should mount up the top to the window frame and barely be noticeable in the field of view ( no I haven't mounted it yet - just another of those things to do) |
