HI All, Has anyone had to send a car interstate recently... I am looking for a company that will take the "express" [i]back[/i] to Perth... Dont care if its road or rail but I do want it to be able to be sent with a roof rack (with 4 spares on top) and a boot/backseat full of gear so I can drive it back to Melbourne the long way!!... (will have more on this in planned events...) Cheers, Bryan |

You’ll really struggle to find any regular vehicle transport company that will carry a car with anything loose (even if tied down) in or on it. Your best bet for moving a car with stuff on/in it would be to find a little freight company looking for a backload… |

List of transporters I've seen... CEVA Patricks Toll Auto Adelaide Car Express AutoTrans GJ Roberts Probably a few more that I can't remember now. Problem is people are always sending stuff TO Perth, so there is no backload as such. Backloads go East 
Also, if you are going to be here to pick it, the Indian Pacific does unaccompanied vehicles as well. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE clean your car before you send it over. All used vehicles sent over are subject to Quarantine inspection and cleaning upon arrival in WA. There should be NO dirt, seeds, plant material etc on the car, in the radiator, in the carpet etc etc or else it will need to be sent for specialized cleaning when it gets here which is not cheap. Also the Quarantine inspectors will go through your personal effects to make sure there is no Quarantine Risk Material in there like plants, seeds, soil, fruit and veg, untreated animal hides, gardening equipment, nuts in the shell, honey, rocks, firewood etc etc. Whoever you decide to send it through, make sure they are aware of Quarantine or you may be in for a rude shock. ^^^ What he was saying is: http://www.greatsouthernrail.com.au/site/travelinfo/motorail/unaccompanied_motorail.jsp Can be loaded with luggage but roof rack must be empty. But if you're not in it, maybe you can fit the tyres on the seat and floor, then transfer to the roof rack at the other end. |

I've heard good things about CEVA and not so good things about almost everyone else - if you go on their website they have an online quote so at least you can start to get some ideas of price. Every now an then they do specials (I think at one time they had adel-bris for $500) - but the car must be drivable. http://cevacarcarrying.com.au/ |

Thanks guys - this is awesome! $900 & I can load it up as much as I want - without anything on the roof though but I am allowed to leave the roof racks on. 4 spare wheels (probably with mud & snow tyres on em) will fit inside the car + other stuff in the boot & on the passenger seat! Everything else can come on the plane with me! Ballistic - dirven that road once already & that was enough!! I reckon if I drove it to Perth there is no way I would want to continue on through the centre! I have put a post in the Planned Events section - have a look... & of course if anyone wants to tag along it could be the adventure of a lifetime

We have 24/7/365 checkpoints at Eucla and Kununurra where every vehicle entering is stopped and checked for all of the items mentioned before. Cars are searched on entry and I've turned people back because of excess mud on their vehicle. I even made a guy shave his dog because it had noogurra burr in it's coat. WA has about 3500 less pest and disease than the rest of Australia. Because of our remoteness and the few entry points (3 roads, rail head, airport, wharf) we can police the entry of this stuff quite easily and are well known for being the "Batards" or Quarantine in Australia. Some of our requirements are more strict than the AQIS commonwealth requirements
It's not a money making excercise, well not for us anyway. If you are a private importer, there is no charge for inspection of the vehicles. The cleaning is not done by Quarantine WA, but companies who are approved and registered by us to carry out the cleaning. They charge but we don't see a penny of it. Cheers, Keels |

Bryan If you can, try and get the car loaded on the bottom level of the trailer. The cars are much more protected down there. I'll never forget the day the Rolls Royce club brought their cars over for a rally and the locals at Kalgoorlie decided to fling a few rocks over the fence at the train as it was passing through. Smashed windows and damaged body work on all these beautiful classic cars. Was devastating. Ofcourse there is insurance offered with GSR but how do you quote on an original windscreen from a 1920's car? Cheers, Keels. |
