Hi Everyone, could someone tell me how the warning light on the M/C actually works. I know it must make an electrical connection somehow at the M/C and from there illuminate the warning light inside the car. If I put 2 wires from a battery on the 2 leads from the switch would that put the light on inside the car in order to see it the light works ?? |

If this is the tandem cylinder that you're talking about, there is a 2nd plunger that is controlled by the pressure of the main cylinder. If one side of the main cylinder fails, the pressure drops on one side of the plunger and pushes it into the pin which attaches to the brake failure light. If memory serves, the plunger grounds the other side of the light to activate it, so grounding the switch will work (I think). However, the brake fail plunger often won't even work - the plastic thread breaks, or the plunger rusts into place. What's more, the plunger will only move when you hit the brakes, so it will only tell you that one of the circuits has failed when you use the brakes, and you'll be able to tell yourself by then. |

As far as ADR goes the Brake failure light should also work as a "TEST" every time you crank the starter motor. This is done by a normally open Relay fed from the start position on the ignition switch and when the contacts close they supply a negative to the Lamp to bypass the switch on the master cylinder. The LS models had this added on from factory. |

Bit of a thread revival here, but I have a 78 Leyland with none of the warning lights in the top dash pad. From what I've read here it should definitely have them, so I've picked up a dash with the lights in it. I'm also planning on getting a new harness but looking at vinwire it would seem that the 1275LS harness would be the only suitable one? http://www.vinwire.com.au/pdfs/MN-pricelist.pdf They don't seem to have one for a basic 77/78 mini or mini s. Any help appreciated! Cheers, Nick! |

I know my S had one. Cheers, Dicko. |

My 77 S doesn't have the rear demisters, but does have the warning lights. My previous 78 S did have both. Maybe some of the LS owners could let us know about rear demisters? Dicko. |

Ok then, I'll have a talk with them and see. As an aside is still possible to get rear screens with the demister anywhere? |

I didn't find any one selling new heated rear screens , but I did fit a heated screen kit from eBay which is a bit fiddly and has fallen off at the edges ![]() ![]() |
