Ok so this may seem like a silly question buy hey..

I want to adjust the tappets as they are a bit noisy and there has just been a post about doing it so I though why not give it a go, but if I take the rocker cover off, do I need to replace the rocker cover gasket? I haven't taken it off since I bought the car 12 months ago......

Cheers

Pry the cover up carefully from the front. Make sure the gasket stays on the cover or the head, not both- or it'll rip. Slide a steel ruler or something along to free it.
Should be able to save it if it's only been fitted once.

when they get old, they go hard and brittle. If yours is like that, get a new one.

well i have just pulled a genuine mk2 engine out of the roundy, that could be the next hand me down for the clubby..... :D
And yes i can be cheap, but i blame my wife for that. I wasn't allowed to buy the clubby without selling some stuff to make up the cash. Sad really

nooooo its all about love trust and honesty.. .. and gaskets sorry.. if the last person overtightened them last time they may be stuffed... some people tend to tighten on cork gaskets with a strong bar. so when you get them open they are thiner than paper...

I personally would not reuse a gasket, unless desperate and on the side of the road.
They are cheap enough for piece of mind. As said before , dont overtighten a rocker cover gasket as they keep compressing untill paper thin.

My 2 cents

cheers
